In the tortured blackness
eyes wide but cannot see
the ink of night jails my soul
I long to be set free

Sheets are tossed asunder
naked skin cast in gray
mind can’t help but wonder
do you also lie awake?

Across the fractured darkness
are you fast asleep
Or do the ghosts of your mind wander
do you also think of me?

As my thoughts caress your face
your skin the moonlit hue of cream
let all the anguish be erased
Please teach me how to dream

The obsidian madness all around
for you I must be strong
let us speak without a sound
I don’t know right from wrong

As night is punctured by the sun
do we still lay alone
or did we spend a moment together
across the vast unknown

Insomnia (a poem)
